The shops and stalls in Portobello Road are divided into four sections.
At the beginning of the Road, the South end, from Chepstow Villas to Colville Terrace is the 'Antiques and bric-a-brac' section. Here you will find a large selection of silver, glass, paintings, decorative items, carpets and many items of interest.
Further down, from Colville Terrace right down to Lancaster Road is the Central, the 'Vegetables and Fruit' section. This section is occupied predominantly by fresh vegetables and fruit stalls. These sell all fresh produce, brought here fresh every day. You will also find stall with houselhold items, ready food, fish, cheese and bread stalls.
Under the Westway is the 'Portobello Green' section. This area has many stalls, selling retro fashions, leather good, accessories, music and jewellery, together with items of interest. This section also has a large number of stalls selling second hand clothing.
In this areas is 'Portobello Green Arcade which houses over 20 designer outlets. These are specialist shops, owned by clothing, jewellery and accessories designers.
Further North from the Green is the 'Northern section'. This goes up to the end of the Road and spills into neighbouring Goldborne Road. It contains many stands and street areas, selling clothing, music, furniture, domestic items, you name it, you will find it here.
Traditionally, only the fresh vegetables and fruit stalls are open throughout the week, esxcept for Thursdays, when it is half-day trading.
All other stall are open only on Fridays and Saturdays. However, as the Road is gaining in popularity, many of the traders have realised that it is slowly becoming a 7 days a week business.
